Afrofantastic is Afrofuturism
What is Afrofuturism?
The intersection of speculative practice and liberation defines what we mean when we say Afrofuturism. Striving toward freedom has required the black imagination to see new paths and imagine different worlds.
My engagement with Afrofuturism spans teaching, research, and public programming. My Integrate Arts and Humanities course at Michigan State University, “Afrofantastic: Race, Power, and Gender in the Black Imaginary,” provides undergraduate students an exploration of the black speculative practice from the definition of the term to its expression across a variety of fields.
You can track my Afrofuturism work at AFROFANTASTIC, my dedicated site for Afrofuturism.
“Afrofantastic: The Transformative World of Afrofuturism” is a documentary exploring contemporary Afrofuturism that I co-produced, directed, and hosted for WKAR PBS.
